Homelessness and Poverty in Orange County

  • Orange County, CA: Second highest Housing Wage Level in U.S. (hourly wages to afford housing)
  • 35,000+ homeless people live in Orange County*
  • According to the 2010-2011 Orange County Department of Education
           - 1 in 17 children in Orange County is homeless
           - 28,000+ Orange County PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS live in unstable housing conditions
           - 26,084 live in doubled/tripled-up housing
           - 973 live in motels
           - 928 live in shelters
           - 106 live in unsheltered surroundings (parks, campgrounds)
  • Shortage of shelter beds and many with high-entry qualifications, leave average homeless people on the streets

1 in 3 homeless children living in motels will be served by FOCUS Orange County again this year!
